Context

In May of 2025, the Geoscientists of Canada came to me with a problem.

Geology graduates are down. People aren’t getting earth science degrees like they once were, and as a result, valuable roles are left vacant, and industries on the cutting edge of climate science and environmental protection are squeezed for talent.

As a part of a larger educational campaign, a poster was needed to be a visual explanation of the many varied career paths that earth sciences could lead to.

What’s typically associated with the profession is dirty industry. Open pits, fracking, dams, environmental displacement on grand scales. While this has typically been the projects of geologists, the game has changed.

In the current day, the career path of a pro geoscientist has shifted toward roles in renewable energy, climate science, natural hazard protection, and sustainable development.

The project was simple: Show this new reality in a way that be explored and engaging to potential geoscientists.
